| Covenant Partners Dear Partner, We as the body of Christ must begin to examine why it is that we are in the same place as the world in regards to our families. LetÕs be honest today. Are you currently in a Òdysfunctional familyÓ or is one of your friends, coworkers or relatives lost in the sea of dysfunction in their family? If we were honest with ourselves each of us would have to answer yes to this question. The next question is how many of those dysfunctional families claim Christ as the head of them? If any of those claim Christ as the head there in is where our dilemma lies. We as the body are having an identity crisis. The world is too much with us. With us is the rising number of teenage pregnancies, the increasing instances where the mother has to head the family, the absence of family values being taught as a priority to our children and so many others. As children of God we have no business in the same category as those who donÕt have Christ as an example for their lives. We are going to smack the devil between the eyes today with the truth. Truth from the word that is the first step in claiming the Kingdom for Christ. We are going to give you some solid insight today as to Why Relationships and Families Fail and how you and your family can stand against the opposition. Now that we have established where we are we must make a concrete decision that after reading this lesson we will be doers of the word and not hearers only according to James 1:22. If you are not prepared to be a doer of the word today you may as well stop reading now and continue to operate they way you have been. We are going to break this up into two basic categories: The ManÕs Role & The WomanÕs Role. The ManÕs Role Since the man has been ordained by God to be the head, we will study his role first as we determine Why Relationships and Families Fail. 1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. It is interesting to note the clarity in this verse that God has ordained head-ship or leadership at every level, even for Jesus Christ. One of the most critical factors in Why Relationships and Families Fail is lack of consistent demonstrated headship or leadership by the man. In Ephesians 5:21-33 the truth of the man being the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church and savior of such is laid out. Also conveyed is total subjection in all things on the part of the wife. In the above referenced scripture the church is commanded to be subject to a Holy, Loving, Sacrificing His own life Savior. Therefore the man is commanded to be a Holy, Loving, Sacrificing, His own Life Man. Many times a woman is struggling to submit to a man that doesnÕt know he is similar to that of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ who gave of Himself totally for us. It is important to note in your reading of Ephesians 5 that the emphasis seems to be on submission by the woman (wife), but on love and sacrifice by the man (husband). ItÕs not hard to submit to someone who understands how to love with the sacrificial agape divine unconditional love of God. The WomanÕs Role As we look at Genesis 2:18 we can see that GodÕs original intention for the woman was to be a help meet companion, and co-ruler in the earth. It seems as though God intended for the woman to encourage and aid the man. Many women grow up in homes where they never see or hear their mothers encourage their fathers. A close look at I Peter 3:1-6 shows the specifics for how the woman of God is to be supportive and able to even win her husband at times when he gets out of the word. Proverbs 31:10-31 gives full details of what the role is of a virtuous woman or wife. Here we must also realize that a woman must develop these virtuous attributes before she is married and starts having children. There are women who get married and have never learned how to sew a button on, let alone maintain the order and cleanliness of an entire household. Then when you add children to her under developed life you get chaos at best. As families ordained by God we must focus on (3) key areas that will insure no other families ordained by God will fail again.
